An Afternoon on the Playground

For the past two years, Chickie’s school playground has been under construction. When Chickie started her new school back in June, the whole playground area looked like a war zone. It was literally nothing but trenches, piles of dirt, bulldozers, wheelbarrows, and a few porta-potties. Seriously, it looked like something out of a Stephen King novel.

For months, the kids had to play in the front of the building with nothing to keep them occupied except pine needles, dead tree leaves and a few ant hills. Long story short, it was a long summer for everyone…

Until this past Thursday.

The playground had its official ribbon cutting and is brand-spanking new and beautiful. Seriously – if I could hang out somewhere all day, it would be on this playground. My only complaint is that there is no Starbucks tucked over in the back corner. It has the most amazing jungle gym, swings, miniature house, sandbox, trikes, and water/art stations imaginable.

Michael and I were able to take the afternoon off from work to attend the ribbon cutting with Chickie and I’m so glad that we did. One of Chickie’s most favorite things in the world is to be outside playing. I know these past few months with no playground to really speak of has been a drag for her so it was pretty cool to see her happy again and in her element. She ran and played with her friends and pretty much spent most of her time on the slides. It was so interesting to step back and watch her interact with her school friends because we don’t see that side of her much since we both work.

All in all, it was a pretty spectacular afternoon with our best girl.

{I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the look on her face!}

  4. I can't imagine those little beings having to wait until now to get a real play ground to play on. Their replacement play area sounded horrible.

    1. It was pretty bad. I mean, I'm sure with them being the age they are, they had nothing to compare it to but still - what kid doesn't want or like a real playground to play on? So happy it's done!

  7. Her playground looks AMAZING! And I'm with you... they should totally have a Starbucks at the playground. Hello. They would make SO MUCH MONEY.
    Also, LOVE that first picture of her sliding down the slide and her hair all static-y. So cute!
